We have been learning that there are 5 languages of love. It has raised awareness amongst us all that there are many different ways that we can show people that we care about them, and to show kindness. We are all trying to use the 5 languages of love.

Hedgehogs

In class we are learning about abuse. Abuse is when somebody has POWER over another person and causes them HARM. Types of abuse are neglect, emotional, physical, cyber, sexual and family violence. We read a story about a boy being hit by his dad for being late home. The boy was late home because he found a potato, then a matchstick, then other bits and pieces, and stopped to make a hedgehog. We made hedgehogs as we reflected on the story.

Junior Camp

All junior students attended a two day camp at Lake Kaniere this week. The weather was sunny and hot but the morning was really really cold. Students enjoyed making damper and cooking over the open fire. Maple syrup ensured that the damper was spectacularly delicious. Students made rafts and raced them. The team of Charlotte, Connor Reid, Khaya, Connor Greig and Hugo won our class race. Students loved the free swimming and would have liked more time. There was not much sleep to be had, and many students are home today catching up on sleep.

Redcross Raffle

In Room 4 at Westland High School students had a raffle to raise money for bikes for resettled refugees in Nelson. The men need a bike to get to their job because their don't have a New Zealand driving licence. We raised $650 dollars and we are really proud of it.

Junior school swimming

Hello from the Junior school teaching team! Just a quick note to let you know that we have organised some swim dates for the junior school. 
Those dates are: JHHJ and JHHL- Thursday, September 7th, 10:30am-11:30am JHMC and JHCM- Friday, September 8th, 10:30am-11:30am 
JHHJ and JHHL- Week of September 25th (exact date to be confirmed) JHMC and JHCM- Week of September 25th (exact date to be confirmed)
Costing for these dates combined will be $4.00, and can be paid to the front office any time prior to Thursday, September 7th. Many thanks and looking forward to it!
